Complete Guide for Buying and Using a Ceiling Fan

If you're thinking about buying a ceiling fan, this guide will help you make the best decision for your home, ensuring a practical, comfortable, and efficient purchase.

1. Where do I start when buying a ceiling fan?

The first factor to consider is the diameter of the fan. In the filter menu on the left, select the size of your room. If in doubt, it's better to choose a larger fan. A large fan, running at low speed, is more efficient and quieter than a small one that needs to work at maximum speed.

Another important aspect is whether you want a  fan with light  or fan without light. This depends on your needs and the space where you are going to install it.

  • Fans with light: perfect if you're looking to save space or want to illuminate the room while cooling the air.

Lastly, decide on the operation type you prefer: remote control, pull chain, or wall regulator. Some models include the remote, while others, like those with a pull chain, may offer it as an optional add-on.

2. How much does a ceiling fan cool?

A ceiling fan does not cool the air; it simply moves it. The sensation of freshness it generates can be equivalent to a decrease of up to 4°C, especially under the blades. Remember, the fan creates a comfortable environment by moving air but does not lower the actual temperature of the room.

3. What is the winter function?

The winter function or reverse mode allows the fan to change its direction of rotation. In summer, the fan spins counterclockwise to generate a refreshing breeze downward. In winter, it changes direction to push the warm air down, redistributing heat from higher areas to the rest of the room.

4. Are ceiling fans silent?

Yes, quality ceiling fans are silent. The larger the fan and the slower it spins, the quieter it will be. Fans with a DC motor (direct current) are especially quiet and efficient, offering precise speed control.

Ceiling fans are ideal for bedrooms, as they are healthier than air conditioners and provide a more comfortable and relaxing environment for sleep.

5. What is the DC motor?

The DC motor (direct current) is an advanced technology that offers quieter and more efficient operation. It consumes much less energy than traditional AC motors (alternating current) and provides precise speed control, making it an excellent option for those seeking savings and comfort.

6. At what height should I install my ceiling fan?

To ensure proper operation and safety, the fan should be installed at a minimum height of 2.3 meters from the floor, although the ideal height is 2.4 meters. Ensure that the ceiling height is at least 2.6 meters.

  • If your ceiling is low, you can install a fan without a rod (although its performance will be slightly lower).
  • If your ceiling is high, you can add a rod extension to optimize performance.

7. Can I install a fan on an inclined ceiling?

Yes, some models of fans are suitable for installation on inclined ceilings (up to a 15° angle). Make sure that the blades do not hit the ceiling, and if necessary, choose a smaller fan or use a rod extension. Check out models available for inclined ceilings here.

8. Can I install the fan myself?

Installing a ceiling fan can be a DIY project if you have basic knowledge of electrical installations. However, if you're unsure, it's advisable to hire a professional to ensure safety and proper installation.
